Oktavia
Kiss was born in Csap, Ukraine
where she began her formal
ballet training at the tender
age of 5 in Uzhgorod, a
city rich in centuries of
music, art, dance and culture.
That experience
inspired Ms. Kiss and shaped
her passion for movement,
challenging her to experiment
with seminal works by redound
choreographers.
At
age 8 her parents moved
to The United States of
America and settled in Queens,
New York.
Ms. Kiss continued perfecting
her dance training at The
Dance Factory and was accepted
into the Dance Program at
Benjamin N. Cardozo High
School. It was during this
period that she
found music just as important
as movement, inspiring her
to broaden her scope into
a wide spectrum expertise
in contemporary choreography,
modern tap, jazz, salsa
& merengue. These
various forms of movement
were critical to her innovative
ability to blend unique
genres of dance with masterful
grace.
Her
passion for dance continued
while attending college
at Stony Brook University
where she graduated with
a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Sociology and Minor in
Dance.
Today,
Ms. Kiss continues her commitment
to her passion by working
with children as young as
2 years old, as well as
teens. She has been teaching
for nearly ten years, helping
her students
perfect creative movement
and inspiring them to find
their passion, just as she
was inspired in her childhood.
