Michel Kouakou
African

A native of the Ivory Coast, Michel Kouakou is an active performer of both traditional and contemporary dance. He has made appearances in numerous European countries, as well as Japan, Africa and the United States. He began his career studying dance, acrobatics and Marionette Theatre in his home country. After receiving several prizes in Abidjan for dance, he continued his study of contemporary dance with Germaine Acogny in L`ecole de Sables in Senegal.

As a teacher, Michel has given several workshops throughout Europe, the US and Japan. Last year he was invited to teach modern Dance at the Duncan Center Conservatory in Prague and served as a full time faculty member for six months. Currently Michel lives in New York as a permanent resident, performing as a dancer for Reggie Wilson Fist and Heel performance group, and as a teacher for modern dance at the IFETAYO Cultural Arts Facility in Brooklyn.

Recently he founded his own dance company ‘Daara Dance’ in which his piece “Step In” was performed in the Czech Republic as well as in Holland and France. Recently the New York Times reviewed his Company work at the Dance Theatre workshop favorably on October 22nd 2007. We are very pleased to have Michel a part of the Studio E family and hope to have a long and enriching experience together.
